The FILK Freiberg Institute and Accredited Test Lab recently opened its doors to the region’s young talent through two key events aimed at inspiring the next generation of scientists and technicians.
Open Days at FILK – A Look Behind the Lab Doors
On March 12th and 14th, FILK welcomed around 40 enthusiastic pupils and their parents for two immersive Open Days as part of a regional career guidance initiative. The event gave students the chance to experience scientific professions up close and explore career paths in laboratory technology.
Training coordinator Jörg Hunger introduced participants to the institute’s three apprenticeship programmes:
- Physics Laboratory Technician
- Chemical Laboratory Technician
- Biology Laboratory Technician
Participants enjoyed an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the laboratories, offering hands-on insights into daily work routines. Former trainees Lisa-Marie Gläser and Corinne Herrmann shared their personal experiences and answered questions with authenticity and passion. The live demonstrations and mini experiments were a definite highlight, sparking curiosity and excitement among the young visitors.
Attendees also had the chance to interact directly with FILK employees, trainees, and management, gaining valuable advice on applications and career planning. The initiative serves as a proactive step towards addressing the regional shortage of skilled labour by connecting with potential future professionals at an early stage.
FILK at the ORTE Career Fair – Connecting with Future Scientists
Earlier in the year, on January 9th, FILK participated in the ORTE career fair, one of the most important regional events for career orientation. Students, alumni, and job seekers met with local employers to discuss job opportunities and application strategies.
